Where I Have Been, and What I Am Building Now

If you have been wondering why this blog has been quiet for so long, here is the honest answer: I largely stopped blogging because of AI.

Writing good articles takes time. These days, a lot of that work gets scraped, repackaged, and redistributed elsewhere with zero context and zero benefit to the original author. I do not want to spend my limited creative energy feeding that machine.

That does not mean I stopped building. It just means my focus moved.

My focus now: Talescape

Right now, almost all of my time goes into Talescape, my upcoming platform for interactive stories.

Talescape is built around a simple idea: interactive stories should be made by real people, and creators should be able to publish without fighting code, tooling, and platform chaos. For creators, Talescape aims to make authoring feel like building a game, without writing a single line of code. For players, it aims to make discovery feel human, not algorithmic.

If you want the best overview, start here:

Project Status Overview

Below is the current state of the projects you might have seen on Aureola over the years. I will keep this short and concrete.

Little Astronaut: maintenance mode

Little Astronaut is released and stays available. It is in maintenance mode now. I may push irregular fixes or small updates, but I am not actively planning new features.

Samurai Standoff: maintenance mode

Samurai Standoff is also released and stable. Same situation: maintenance mode, possible irregular updates, but no planned feature roadmap right now.

HAUNTR: discontinued, story will return in a new form

HAUNTR was an augmented reality horror game experiment. Most of the technical work and learnings ended up feeding directly into what is now Talescape. HAUNTR itself will be discontinued, but the core story is not dead. I plan to bring it back inside Talescape when the time is right, in a form that fits the platform better.

Unity packages: maintenance mode

My Unity packages are considered feature complete. I do not actively use Unity anymore, so they are in maintenance mode. I might revisit them later, but you should not expect frequent feature updates.

Vestes Bellica: occasional updates possible

Vestes Bellica may receive updates in the future. It is a separate track from Talescape, and I still care about it, but it is not my main focus right now.

Gaming Logo Maker: occasional updates possible

Gaming Logo Maker might also receive updates again. It is live, it works, and I am still proud of the editor and the platform foundations behind it, but Talescape gets priority.

What I am doing right now

I am building Talescape to the point where it can carry real creators and real releases. That means boring work as much as exciting work: tooling, publishing workflows, moderation and labeling, quality checks, and all the infrastructure you only notice when it fails.

If you are here for dev writing, I cannot promise a return to the old blogging cadence. But I will post updates when there is something meaningful to share, especially as Talescape gets closer to release.

For now, thanks for still being here.
