Vestes Bellica

Vestes Bellica is an online platform dedicated to the study of military attire and history, focusing primarily on the period from the 17th century onwards with the advent of standing armies. The project delves into the evolution of soldiers' clothing, equipment, and weaponry over time, contributing to a critical cultural memory of military history.

The website explores the uniform as both a reflection of societal and civilian fashion influences, and as a functional, symbolic, and economic element. It examines the development of military uniforms through a multifaceted lens, taking into account technical, political, and sociological factors. Vestes Bellica is built upon a wealth of original sources—such as engravings, lithographs, photographs, and military documents—as well as secondary sources like watercolors, drawings, and rare printed illustrations.

In this project, I take responsibility for both the design and technical implementation. My goal is to create a user-friendly, visually appealing interface that makes the subject matter accessible to a wide audience, enhancing understanding and appreciation of the military traditions and societal contexts explored on the platform.

By combining historical rigor with modern digital solutions, Vestes Bellica aims to offer an immersive and educational experience to anyone interested in the rich history of military attire.
